George McCracken S/S 2011 Show
September 21st, 2010On September 16th, 2010 George McCracken previewed his new S/S 2011 collection at the LES Thompson Hotel’s pool. I shot each look with each guy standing on a plexi cube in the pool. A big storm came through and the show had to be moved inside. See the shots featured on Fashion News Live online and Esquire online.

New Still Life Shoot
September 21st, 2010Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii
September 10th, 2010Gorskii photographed the Russian Empire under Tsar Nicolas II between 1909 – 1912. A selection of his photographs are posted on the The Big Picture of Boston Globe’s web site. The effects (color, etc.) are the result of a camera that allowed Gorskii to photograph three images in a row (each one with a red, or blue, or green filter). Each frame was a black and white image, but when lit (or projected) with correct light, would allow the scene in color. Here are some of my favorite images from the internet.
Bill Brandt catalogue from exhibition at Hayward Gallery April 1970
July 22nd, 2010I’ve been really interested in old gallery and museum catalogues. My latest is a Bill Brandt catalogue from the Hayward Gallery in London. Brandt is one of my favorite photographers and I really like the effect of the yellowing of the pages that the photographs are printed on. It’s also interesting to see what images are chosen to be included in the catalogue (versus what might be exhibited today). I found this at the Strand.
Robert Walser
July 19th, 2010I have just been reading “Selected Stories” by Robert Walser. The writing is so unique and inspiringly different. The characters are lonely, but not unhappy. The loneliness is beauty, not despair. So far, my favorite story is “Kleist in Thun.” I got turned onto the book when researching the Brother’s Quay. Walser is listed as one of their inspirations.
